Trend: Woven Wall Hangings

Being a BIG fan of my local Flea Markets and Thrift stores I have seen many woven wall hangings from the 60's and 70s in my travels.  The fiber arts are here and mainstream.  They are so fresh and add so much color and depth to your space.  Check these cuties out....

These 8x8 wall poufs from Cold Picnic are SO FUN!  They are each handmade and the color combinations are timeless.  I'll take one of each please!

Nate Berkus is even in on this trend....I like the simplicity in the lines of this wall hanging.  And for the price (around $35)...it just makes sense.

Oh!!!  I saw this on etsy.....  Creds to Sonadorainlove! Eyes are filled with Pretty on this gem.

What do you think of these wall hangings? Are they here to stay?

Pj's, Panties and Puppies

Uhhhh....yeaaaa.... Wasnt expecting to have torn up ghetto pjs and underpants when I signed on for this whole puppy thing. She's a Spanish Water dog. I get it. They're herders. She is gonna nip at my ankles and pull at my pant leg. Never did I think I'd be walkin' around with torn up pants. Cause you know what folks?? She don't know the difference between my $10 Target pajama pants and my $100 Jcrew dress pants. Just sayin.

Cute right? Not even a little. Why am I wearing them still you ask? Beats buying new ones that'll end up in the same shape!! So, gone are the days of nice pajamas and Etta gets put in her kennel before I get dressed for work.

I dunno...maybe I'll make a quilt out of all the clothes she ruins during this puppy phase. Silver lining....;)

Meet my Etta Girl...

Meet my sweet Etta girl.  She is 15 weeks old today.
I looked high and low for a furry little companion and I finally came upon her and it was written in the stars that I was to give her her forever home.

Etta is a Spanish Water Dog. She will get to be about 30-40 lbs and 19 inches at the shoulder.  A good sized dog but not huge.  She is also hypo-allergenic and does not shed. HOLLA!!

She LOVES being in the water and and playing with other dogs.  She has A LOT of energy and pounces and prances and keeps herself entertained.

I can't imagine my life without her.  Such a joy to come home to her everyday.
She is such a love bug.

So what's this CSA I keep hearing about?

So as you now know, I moved to Nashville.  WooHoo!  Spring is here and all I'm hearing about at the office is how they can't wait for their "CSA's" to start.

What's a CSA? Glad you asked because I had no idea...  Per the Bountiful Blessings Farm website it is the following....

"Community Supported Agriculture (or CSA) is an innovative concept that is reviving family farms across the country and around the world.  In a CSA, the farmer enters into an agreement with a “community” of consumers to supply them with a regular “share” of fresh produce.  The consumers pay for this service in advance, and the farmer then grows, harvests, and divides the produce among the “shareholders.”
This concept has proven very rewarding for both the farmer and the community of consumers.  The shareholders gain the satisfaction of knowing they are supporting local, sustainable, family farming.  They also feel a closer connection with the land and the farmer who grows their food.  Then there’s the food!  It’s fresh, organic, and delicious!"
Remember my post back in March of 2013 about how I wanted to simplify my life and make goat cheese and have a farm?  I'm kinda diggin' this concept of community supported farming!!

I'm IN!

But which one to choose? There are so many!  And how does it work?

From what I've read it seems that many have options of buying Full Shares or Half Shares and some having options of buying the bushels by the week or bi-weekly.  Prices are approximately $400-800 depending on the farm, bushel size, and how long their season is.  Typical season in Middle Tennessee runs May - Oct.

I found a great resource at Nashville Lifestyle.  They published a guide to Nashville's CSA's.  You can check it out here.  I'm looking at going with one full share and a few of the weekly bushels.  I imagine it will be more than one single person can eat but I'm planning on learning to can so it'll be perfect!

Such a different life than I had in Los Angeles.  Loving it!

Do you belong to a CSA in your area?  Tell us about it in the comments! Also, if you can, leave your recipes below or a link to your blog!

Nashville called...I answered....

I did it!!  I moved to NASHVILLE!!  On January 7th I hit the open road from Southern California to Nashville, Tennessee!!

The question I get most often is "Why did you move to Nashville of all places?" The simple answer is....I was seeking a more simplified life....in a city with a good soul.  Nashville lead that list of cities. I also considered Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA or moving back to Northern Virginia.  All great cities!!

Of course I decide to move to Nashville in the middle of one of the coldest winters they have ever experienced.  The week I arrived it was 5 degrees. Regularly.

PEOPLE....that is COLD!!!

Needless to say...some coat shopping was to be had.  I went to several thrift and vintage stores and SCORED 2 vintage wool coats and a couple great sweaters and an awesome white crochet cape!

The thrifting around here is Second to none.  I will share some of my favorite stores in upcoming posts and some of the steals I've gotten.  Some I've kept for my own abode and some I'm making available to you in my Etsy store!  You can find me at 32MarketStreet.

I look forward to blogging more and sharing with you all the Pretty things in my life!

Long time no ....blog! :)

So I've been a little pre-occupied lately.  Since my last post I quit my job....I moved....and I traveled for 6 weeks through Europe and across 3 US States.

You can follow my travel adventures over at www.thewanderess.com...

I've also been sewing sewing sewing...

This was a quick baby quilt I made for practice sake.
Fabric: Moda PB&J

I call this my Boho quilt.  It's a pattern I came up with myself....mainly because the jelly roll I used was cut wonky and I didn't figure that out until after ALL my blocks were complete.
It's basted and ready to quilt...
Fabric: Moda Boha by Urban Chicks

here's the back...I love it...

And lastly....I'm teaching myself how to hand quilt on the very first quilt I pieced...

Sorry for the poor quality photos...there's no excuse really. sigh.

So here I sit....blogging...contemplating the rest of my life.

What shall I do now?
Where shall I go?

Sew on....
