Recipe: Butternut Squash Soup with Cider Cream

This is one of my favorite Fall / Winter dishes.  My first boss gave me the recipe.  She's awesome. I wonder where she's at? Hmmm

Here's the recipe.  It makes me feel like Christmas has swept me off my feet and lit a fire in the fireplace.....ahhhhh.....

Photography: What's in my Bag!

Several folks have asked what kind of camera I here's what's in my bag!  I'm sure at some point I'll realize that I can pair down on some things but I'm not there yet!

Shuttle Endeavour

When I wrote my 40 by 40 list I knew there would be "bonus" experiences that I couldn't possibly know would come along.  This week the Space shuttle Endeavour took his final flight from Cape Canaveral, FL to what will become its final resting place in Los Angeles at the California Science Center.

First glimpse of Endeavour riding piggyback on a 747 with the escort of 2 fighter jets.
The weather wasn't exactly cooperating in Santa Monica for this once in a lifetime photo-op.

Travel: San Diego Safari Park

About 3 weeks ago, and maybe its been longer, my girlfriend Angela and I were chatting (probably about the dumb guy one of us had recently been out with) and she says as we're signing off ....

"Let's go to the Zoo" I said "Ok"

Who doesn't like the Zoo?

In one of my numerous flash sale, bargain email emails I see that Living Social is running a DEAL at the San Diego Safari Park...

YOU. CAN. FEED. GIRAFFES!!! brainer.

Project: Hollywood Regency style White and Gold Chest make-over

Look what I bought.... a 5in Orbit Power Sander. Yep....that's right.  Some might gasp at the thought of me with power tools of any kind but I will have you know that everyone and everything is in tact.  In fact, I believe I have found my happy place.  As my neighbor told me "You look so peaceful and zen-like".

You should know that I have never sanded or painted anything other than my nails.  It's true.  I've always WANTED to though! But was afraid of screwing it up and then what do you do? start over until you get it the way you want it!  Or pitch it to the curb like some of my neighbors...someone will want it.  :)

Travel: British Columbia (Life List #33.3)

So...I just got back from a 5 day trip to British Columbia.  Planned in just over a week, I decided to knock out one of the train treks that I listed on my 40 by 40 list.

The Amtrak Cascades

I flew from Los Angeles to Seattle first thing Friday morning.  It was raining, its Seattle...of course it was raining.  DUH!! I needed to find myself a jacket OR an umbrella.  The hotel had an umbrella for me to use so that was nice!  I dropped my bags in my room and headed out to find a jacket and find Pikes Market for some much anticipated seafood!

Los Angeles: Shopping on Larchmont Street

Being an LA newbie I'm still discovering all that it has to offer.  A few weeks ago, after admiring an amazing pair of Bed|Stu boots a friend of mine was rockin', she asked if I had been to Library on Larchmont Street in Hancock Park. In fact I hadn't... I went to see what all the buzz was all about.

Los Angeles: Long Beach Antique Market

Today I went to the Long Beach Antique Market for the first time.  It was so great!  There were sooo many  great vendors.  I got there about 6:45am and that was probably about the right time to arrive as the vendors were still setting up. I think they just recently started opening at 5:30.

Did someone say Girls Night Out??

Girls Night
I'm absolutely OBSESSED with the drapey collared jackets right now.  The style of the collar flatters everyone.  It elongates the neckline and broadens the shoulders and slims the waistline.  What more could a woman want?  The green and yellow of this color blocked wedge is to die for even if the price tag makes you gasp! And the Ted Baker bag.....please. Enough said.

Heart of a Woman. Heart of a Mother. Heart of Haiti

I was honored when the folks from Macy's Heart of Haiti contacted me to collaborate with them this year for Mothers Day. They asked me to share my heart on volunteerism.

January 12, 2010 all Americans were glued to their TV sets when the Breaking News of the devastating 7.0 earthquake shook the ground outside Haiti's capital city of Port-Au-Prince.  The devastation was insurmountable.  It was too much to to take in.  The images of injured children carrying injured children....where? Where were they taking them?  There was no where to go.  Hospitals were mere rubble. Their homes were gone.

The world responded immediately.  Humanitarian aid of medical, hygiene supplies, and food and water arrived within 24 hours.  Celebrities rallied friends, corporations and public officials for telethon after telethon to raise funds for more supplies to be sent to Haiti.  Churches and other organizations provided volunteer groups to travel to Port-Au-Prince to offer assistance anywhere they could.  The need was far and wide.

Life List: 40 by 40

Everyone has heard of the movie "Bucket List" with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.  I ran across a list on another blog "30 by 30"....which was the first time I had seen a list put together in such a fashion.  So I immediately started to compile my list. And since I'm well past 30 I put together my "40 by 40".  Since then, I've come across MANY lists like this.  What I found was that I've actually done a good handful of things that many of these folks have on their lists.  I.E. Zip Lining through the Rainforest, Visiting The Louvre, Riding in a gondola in Venice, Visiting The Kremlin in Moscow.  I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunities that I have had in my 37 years.  I've felt a little stagnant in the last 10 years or so so I spent a little time to put together a list of things that I've always wanted to do or dreamed about doing.  Some things on the list will certainly challenge No. 6 since I have NO IDEA where this came from but I'm up for the challenge that the Good Lord has for me.  Shall we?  Let's do this....join me?

Travel Treats...Don't mind if I do!!

Its time for summer vacations and honeymoon planning!!  When vacation time is as treasured as it is these days, you want to make sure that every minute counts once you step foot out of the office.  So why don't you call upon your very own Personal Assistant or Airport Concierge or perhaps a Parisian City Guide?!

If Beijing or Shanghai is your travel destination call upon the exclusive VIP services of At Your Side .  Their website states that they provide Interpreters, Personal Assistants, Concierge Services and City guides.  Highly recommended by Conde Nast Traveler (May 2012)

Beauty: Nail Trauma

I'm having a tumultuous relationship with my nails.  They've always been short due to them peeling, which leads me to pick at them and then they end up looking like monkey's have been chewing on them.  See Exhibit A...

Design: Inspiration Room > Living Room

This inspiration room from ZGallerie had me at Hello...
I'm obsessed with the dresser.  Isn't it so GLAM??
And I love that they are using it in a living/family room setting instead of the
predictable use in the bedroom.  What do you think?

Do you like the green chairs with the green sofa?  Or is it too matchy?

Could it be true?? Cupcake Vending??

Word on the street is that Beverly Hills Cupcakery "Sprinkles" is installing a 24/7 cupcake vending machine.  Lord please tell me this is true??  Women across the West Side are rejoicing.  Let's face it....women crave these cupcakes like its their job.  I don't hear guys around the office saying "Man I could really go for a Sprinkles cupcake"  It's true.

Let it be known that my favorite is the Red Velvet.  Don't speaketh to me whilst I am consuming said cupcake.  Consider yourself warned. :-)

Marie Claire's Horoscope - Scorpio

Just read my horoscope in the back of Marie Claire's March 2012 issue.  I'm a Scorpio.... It reads:

"Neptune dropping into your house of creativity will spur you to delve into your expressive side:
Start a BLOG or take up an instrument. Opening your mind will also affect ROMANCE,
be it writing an online dating profile or amping up date night.  Ditto for your career.
With some nurturing, a hobby may turn into a paying gig."

WOW!!  Big Smiles on my face after reading this.  I started this blog about 30 days ago with the intent to tap back into my creative soul that had been dormant for entirely too long.  My curiosity leads me down this new creative path and I'm looking forward to seeing where it leads me.  Join me won't you??

Beauty: Glam Glow Mud Mask

I've had problem skin for as long as I can remember.  Phases of acne, oily skin, large pores, brown spots as a result of the acne and now (lucky me) fine lines.  Today, I was introduced to "Glam Glow Mud Mask" at the Simply Stylist event at the W Hotel in Hollywood.  The up-sell was that Glam Glow was used behind the scenes at American Idol and the show "24" and the celebrities raved how it smoothed their skin for many days after using.  It is also used (per the website) in Bliss Salons, and numerous spas in Las Vegas.  Glam Glows main ingredients are Volcanic Rock, Real pieces of Green Leaves, Purified Clay, Cucumber and Ivy.  So, being a sucker for anything that promises to even out my skin, shrink pores and remove impurities I bought said mask.

It's Gonna be one of those days

Remember the children's book "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"? I'm afraid I'm off to a similar start to this day.  Was up at 4am with irritated boss calling me from a cold and rainy NYC running late to his first meeting that will no doubt make him late for the next 5 meetings up to lunch where we hope to get back on track.  Whilst in the shower I cut both ankles shaving (Can I get an "Ohhh Noooo" from the ladies??" then I proceeded to drop my eyelash curler in my coffee and then my hairbrush into the toilet (certainly glad it wasn't my flatiron...) Wish I had a picture to share with you of the horror that was my hairbrush in the toilet but as you can surely imagine I quickly fished it out and tossed it in the trash.  (Can you really get it clean enough again??)

This day needs to turn around quick!!  I have a date tonight!!

The Oscar Dress that had me at Hello...

The 84th Annual Academy Awards were held on Sunday.  Ladies around the world were glued to their TVs awaiting the beautiful and breathtaking Red Carpet fashions they only dream of wearing someday.  This year though, for me, that breathtaking moment never really hit my screen.  It wasn't until I was searching for the dresses that I may have missed....that's when I saw Milla Jojovich in this stunning white Elie Saab gown.   Feminine and old Hollywood look from head to toe.  From the classic red lip to the beautiful updo with soft curls falling around her face.  I think I honestly would cry if I had the chance of wearing this dress.

Shea it isn't so....

L'Occitane's Shea Butter Hand cream is BY FAR the best cream out there.  It doesn't leave my hands feeling greasy or leave a funky smell (you know what I'm talkin' 'bout!).  Nor do I feel the need to reapply every 20 minutes.  I keep one in my purse, my desk, my gym bag and my car ANNNNND my night stand!! Buy the trio here for $28.

Sparkle and Shine

I couldn't pass these Tory Burch silver glitter flats up!!  Annnnd They were on SALE!
